Right. I didn't expect anyone to come 400+ miles for lunch, but with yooose guys, who knows?:D

I know there are a few NYC locals on the forum that may be interested?

If it's the 14th I should be able to make it. Got any ideas on the itinerary yet?

randy

Itinerary is:

meet at the summit around 11, ride to a lunch spot and enjoy some of the nice roads there, then split. Just a day trip. How far up 17 are you?

actually, I'm up the thruway, 35mi south of Albany. Sounds like a plan. Definate on Sunday, not as Definate on Saturday.

Yes, Perkins at the tower, the inn is still under renovation. Too bad, would have been a good place for lunch.

Hi, randy.
This looks like a long ride out about 2 hrs for me on the slab, But I am strongly considering makeing it out there for this. SWMBO looks like she would like to come along too. I am not familiar with the meating place or the area so any details would be of great assistance. I have already looked up 3 routes to get to Bear mountain.

Hope we can make it.
Ray and Deb

The weather was too good to waste, so I took a ride up to Bear Mtn this morning, it was lousy with two-wheelers! Some pics in the link below:

As luck would have it, and this really IS luck, Saturday & Sunday June 13 & 14 the Antique Motorcycle Club of America is holding a national meet in Rhinebeck , NY at the old Aerodrome. Here's my plan:

Meet at the Bear Mountain Summit at 11, ride up along the Hudson on 9W where we find a place for lunch, then cross the Hudson just north of Kingston to the show. Admission is $15. BTW, also part of the show is the Vintage Japanese Club:D

And the Aerodrome has air shows, biplane rides and displays of antique aircraft. Should make for fun day all around. Let's watch the weather and firm up the day by mid-next week.

Check out the link to the AMCA: http://www.rhinebecknationalmeet.com/

And the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome: http://www.oldrhinebeck.org/default.htm

That would work out great for me! I beleave this is one of the big events and should be out standing. I know a guy who shows Harleys there. Of course the one selfish reason I have is that it leaves me off in my back yard!

So what day have you picked??? If its Sunday the 14th I can make this...weather permitting....On the day before I am doing a RTE for breakfast in Putnam Valley NY...a place called Niese Maple Farm...they make killer maple pancakes and other breakfasts too all in a barn...LOL thats' with some of the ST-Owners...so I will be going thru the Bear mtn /hudson river region again...:D BTW I believe I have resolved my seat comfort issues...:D:D:D

It seems more people can make it on Sunday, so if the weather is good both days, then let's call it Sunday. 11 AM at the Bear Mountain Summit. If you're looking it up, the road is Perkins Memorial Drive. Leaving Bear Mountain at 11:30 sharp, it's 60 mi to Rhinebeck.

Well looks like the SWMBO is out for this run. I am still not 100% sure I can make it as I may have to work this weekend. If I do make the run my 17yr old daughter says she is up for a day on the bike. :)

earl, any ideas as to what route you may be taking? estimated time of departure?

Earl and Ray if you guys want to meet at the Exxon again off 78 and 287 let me know...I am planning to head up there the same way we did 2 wks ago...287 to the Palisades Pkwy to the bear mtn park...summit..its the last exit before you get to the bear mtn bridge

rman

Hi,
Ben, 287 and rt 78 is a little south for me. I would be comming across 80 to 287. What rt number is the palisades parkway?

madmax-im
06-09-2009, 11:00 AM
On 287 you have to go past where it meets the NY Thruway (I87) and stay on 287 towards the TappanZee bridge...the Palisades Pkwy is is exit 13N and its roughly about 18-20 miles to the last exit before the bear mtn. bridge.

randy
06-09-2009, 11:08 AM
If it suits you guys, I can meet up with you on the Palisades Parkway, then we can go the last 5-6 miles to the summit together. Just before the last exit there is a book store/visitors center (on the center median on the left). I'll be there at 10:30 or so.

Cool, Russ, that's what I figured, it's going to be a big show and I'm sure there will be lots of variety as far as eats go. Meet you at the show? It's at the fairgrounds. Look up in this thread, there's a link to the show details. In case you need it, my cell is 516-462-0041. Ring me up when you get there.

Earl...Ray while i might know some of these roads...I have no idea of where to meet off 80 and 287...dunno that area and what the landmarks are any suggestions?

earl G
06-09-2009, 07:51 PM
ben i will have to look at google earth see what i can find , something off of 287 n.

madmax-im
06-09-2009, 08:30 PM
Earl I think I have it...take I80 east to exit 45 for Beverwyck Ave N...make left at Beverwyck go over 80 and heading towards rte 46...on the right 1 block before 46 is a parking lot with entrance on Beverwyck av...I will sit there near lot entrance...do Google the area...I tried to paste and copy map but it not work...so if we meet Randy at 10:30 at bookstore then we should meet at parking lot by 9...what think?..we then can take 46 west and get on 287 N

earl G
