1978 headlight

Lighting on my 78 is not the best is there an option someone has discovered using LED lights?

jetmechmarty 08-06-2017 04:01 PM

Welcome to 1978.

There are sophisticated LED options for vintage bikes and they are expensive. Your square headlight makes it more of a challenge. Some folks on here claim improvements from inexpensive options. Hopefully, you can find it with the search function.

after market unit

I will try one of those 50 dollar aftermarket units. Darned old eyeballs can't see nothing anymore! Thank Marty!

If you are trying cheap ones DO NOT waste money on the LED bulbs that fit the stock reflector. Get a whole LED unit that just goes in the headlight bucket. The stock reflector is not designed to be used with LED and does a terrible job reflecting it.

Yup, what Nate said.

Not for the square headlight bike, but somebody will find this interesting.

You gotta be committed to you old iron because you'll pay as much for the light as you did for the bike.

Marketed to the Hardley riders who just have deep pockets (or deep credit).

Apparently, it adapts like the LEDs on the newer FJR:

Quote:

The JW Speaker adaptive headlight knows when you are leaning in for a turn and fills the void with a lumen output of 1150 (high beam) and a 750 lumen output (low beam). The more you lean the brighter it gets up to a 30 degree lean. Be aware of small and large animals around every turn so you can stay safe while rolling through nightime twisties. The JW Speaker features superior visibility (it's as bright as the law allows), improves safety, features a polycarbonate lens and is made in the U.S.A.
It's cheaper than $18K for a new bike with adaptive lighting.

Ducati has adaptive lighting as well. Now, you can have it on your Eleven Special.

No. It has low and high beam, plus adaptive cornering lights. All for $800.

I try to be in before I get darked on. The vintage light on my vintage bike is OK.

Poprock put a LED light in his special. I'll have to text about how well it works. I know he didn't pay that much for it because he's about as cheap as I am...

It looked a lot like that 800 buck unit shown about but I'm sure he said it was reasonably priced...

Why not just buy the Truck-Lite 7" round light?
