Should be 1.25 thread pitch. A front fender bolt would be the same pitch and size, maybe a bit longer.

If you jump the wires before the switch, does it do the same thing? If your bike still has those safety interlocks, they could be causing a problem.

I would stay with the 2H7 TCI and use the mechanical advance and no vacuum advance. 2H7 tci dime a dozen, 4R0 harder to find if it goes bad.

That cover is a tight fit and must be carefully pried off from both sides simultaneously. It will remove much easier with the starter removed. Yes it is a bearing housing.

The one on the right with the 12MM hex is the OEM type, the left one with the 14MM hex looks like a replacement, not original. If you have a small ruler, you can determine which one lines up better...
