Tci

TCI is the little black box the size of a pack of Dunhills? Mine is right on top of my chrome rear fender. I must have had an aftermarket seat. Come to think of it, the seat was fiberglass, too....

Fit on Other Models

Does anyone know how hard of a modification it would be to fit one of the cowl model seats on a different year bike (81 XS H)?

Fantastic

That may be one of the prettiest I have ever seen.

Fastest

Thanks. That lends a lot of insight - the Fastest Production Bike business is probably a big one. I still want a Buick Grand National, if only because they were the fastest production car of it's...

Era

Technically, I am 43 - born in 1968, but always liked bikes/cars in the 1968-1985 range - I suppose the bikes I was eligible for when I turned 16 years old in 1985.

Primarily the XS

I suppose the devotion is strong for both. But, I was more curious about what makes the XS11 so special in peoples minds. I grew up idolizing the KZ1000, and never even considered the XS until I ran...

Svx

We must have similar tastes - the SVX was one of the coolest cars from my youth. But, the devotion to the XS goes above and beyond. I was going to chop mine up into a cafe racer and the objections...

Why the Devotion to XJ's?

This may be an odd and philosophical question. But, When I was growing up, they never had a lot of popularity - CB's and KZ's. I just bought mine this year because of the good price. So far, the bike...

Consider Individual Parts?

I dig the seat. Consider selling it?

Backfire Fix for 1981 XS1100H

Previous owner replaced airbox w/4 individual pod filters. Replace original exhaust with free flow exhaust. Starts, idles, accelerates perfectly. However, upon letting off the gas and engine braking,...

Honda Classic 31

I don't think that is too spendy if it pops right on. My understanding, though is that it is only for the foam and cover. You need your original seatpan, though - right?

Mirrors

I have a pair of mirrors from a 1981 XS1100H. I don't know if those are the same. Email me at joevmathews@gmail.com and I can send you some pics.

Cutting the Seat

Anarchy: I tried this move and f---ed it up badly. I cut off too much foam and fiberglass seatpan. But, if I wasn't so overzealous with the cutting, it would have worked well. A few words of advice:...

Sorry for the double question.

Thanks. That is what I was afraid of. Sorry - I asked the question in a different thread, too. Is there an option that doesn't involve welding?

Fabricating a seat?

Marty. I see that said a lot - "fabrication." What does it actually mean? Cutting/welding? How tough of a job is it to do? I have an XS1100H and want that style of seat.

Fabrication

When everyone says that fitting generic cafe seats to the bike "requires fabrication," what do they mean? Are we talking about cutting/welding? Molding stuff with fiberglass? My thought - forgive my...

Or, another suggestion?

I'd also be happy to entertain any other suggestions you might have - though, I'd prefer to avoid and frame alterations.

Cafe Seat

I have a 1981 XS1100H. As you may have seen from my other post, I botched up my seat and seatpan. I will attempt a repair, unless I find another solution. One that I am considering is this:

Fiberglass Repair

Live and learn, I guess. I messed up. I had a great seat that I was cutting down to a cafe style seat. Well - I cut it down too far - the foam and the fiberglass seatpan. Two questions:

1. Can I...

Sharkhide

I saw a demo of this stuff - it looks awesome. But, it still makes me nervous to not have a more permanent coating. My understanding is that clear powdercoat will hold and protect - better than paint.

Metallic Paint

I agree. I will have to bondo it to clean up the few dings. But, I actually like it looking a bit rough - as opposed to mirror perfect. I like the hammered aluminium look.

Seat Mod

So, I don't want to throw a bunch of cash at my cafe project - nor do I want to do a lot of cutting/fabrication. I live in the city and don't really have a great place to do much, anyway. My thoughts...

I have absolutely no idea!

Lee: Thanks for the inquiry. Unfortunately, I am new to the bike, so I don't know about the interchangeability of the grab rail. The tank paint is crap. But relatively dent free. Recently epoxied on...
