Nice, looks to be built the same as Tkat's was. Even has the split of the halfs that go around fork going correct direction to better counter directional load forces:).

Actually Ken, the opposite is true. 80-81 XS/XJ has the pointed mixture screws that tended to break off when over tightened;). BTW, nice to see you post on occassion:).

As stated by Phil, and I totally agree, another known working correctly votage regulator is the likely issue. Stating what the voltage was using two scenarios definitely tells me the VR is at fault....

STOP/RUN switch internal contacts are a common issue creating a voltage drop. This switch COMPLETES the running circuit. I suggest unplugging it and remove it from bars, take apart and clean contacts...
