Hmm, I will have another look at my early carbs. All of the late model sets I have only have the detents for the spring and ball to latch into on the number one carb end.

No shame in avoiding cost. However, depending how melted it is, you may want to add some electrical tape to the bandage.

As TC stated, definitely clean the connections first.

Interestingly, only the one at the #1 position is used. If you look at the enrichment circuit rod it only has detents for the ball to ride in at the #1end, none at the #4 end.

To bad the XJ exhaust does not mate up to the Special models.
