You can't go wrong with Mikuni float needle valves, but I have K&L in my 4 of bikes and I am satisfied. I did buy the needles and seats together as an assembly, and I did need to readjust the floats...

No, the 850 tach works by rotating cable turned by the the exhaust cam.

The 1100's work by electrical pulses from one of the alternator windings.

They are not interchangable.

I think there is old (silicone?) grease in the speedometer that becomes thick with age.

I had the same problem on one of my XS750s. It went away after 1k miles and never came came back (so far).

Their pilot jets in their kits are wrong for our bikes.

It would cause your problem.

BTW, Changing the float level is a band-aid to hide another...
