1979 XS1100 Special - Beautiful - Make Offer

Hey guys, I've tried selling my bike a few times over the years, but I think the time has finally came. I don't have the motivation and I need to make room.

The bike was running a year ago just fine. The speedometer went out on it and I had a GPS speedometer replacement made with the original faces to match so that it looks OEM. The will install into the OEM chrome housing as well (I have a set of new housing so it will look slick.) I had them program the original mileage into the speedo which is around 27k. I still have the original speedo and tach. The only thing that is needed is to wire them in. They cost me $600.

I also have another engine for the bike. As I recall it has around 20k miles on it with good compression on all cylinders. The idea was to do a 2nd gear fix, powder coat it black, and install it. As you can see I never got around to it. It cost me around $400.

The bike runs just fine (although the carbs may be dirty from sitting a year, I did run stabilizer through it). The 2nd gear just jump if you get on it, so that will have to be addressed at some point. But really, all it needs is the gauges installed and the 2nd gear fix. Most everything else on the bike I have gone through at some point.

I'm not looking to make a killing on it. I'm more concerned it goes to someone who will take care of it and use it. I could probably make a lot more money parting it out, but I would rather see someone use it. If no one is interested I will probably be forced to part it out.

Send me you offer.

Could be wrong, but if IRC you hauled all those parts in the back of a Honda car to be chromed here in Grand Junction. Correct me if I'm wrong.

PM Replied to...

motoman - That is a good memory you have. It wasn't a honda, more like a clapped out 1995 Chevy Lumina, but yes I did drive down to Grand Junction for the chrome. I actually tried contacting the same company a couple years ago when I chromed the starter cover and the bearing cover next to it, but it appeared that they went out of business?

Sorry I couldn't remember the type vehicle everything was hauled in. I just remember all those pics you posted with everything literally stuffed in the back of it! Definitely an ambitious effort made. I seem to remember the reason for hauling everything down here to G.Junction was there was nowhere in Salt Lake at the time that chromed alum./magnesium alloy. But hey..... if I remember that was some ten yrs. ago...or there-abouts.. Remember the build process and pis well! That'll sure make someone an eye-catching ride!

Beautiful!!! Makes my 79' look a little dingy, but that's ok. Who ever buys it will have a sweet looking bike! (Pretty sure the King & Queen seat was a Yamaha option, so technically it would have been original too).

Good Luck.
