Bad gas!

So everyone always is saying the gas we buy is crap and other than it going bad so quickly and killing the carbs in my small engines Iíve never really noticed much else. Iíve never had a problem with any of my xsís. I gave my xs 850 to my boy for graduation because he always loved it so much. After my wreck he kinda lost interest and I wasnít going to encourage him to ride on the street either. Anyway, itís been sitting for two summers now with the same fuel in the tank.....I thought.....Iíve been getting it around lately, fork seals, oil change, battery, camchain adjustment, brake rebuild......so, I put the new battery in and hit the starter and low and behold it fired right up and ran quietly and smooth as could be. I thought wow, what a great bike. I really should have done that cam chain a while ago! Lol. Yesterday I told the boy I was going to renew the registration and run it for the rest of the season so we could get that bad gas out and keep it road worthy. He said ďoh you donít have to worry about that gas. It only had a little left so I went over to the airport and got some 98 octane ethanol free, leaded gas.Ē
Omg, that bike has NEVER run so well! It responds as soon as I twist the throttle, with more snap than ever. Runs like a top and works unbelievably well. It was kinda windy in gusts on my way home from work or I would have tried to redline 5th....it sure felt like it would do it.
So Iíve been riding one xs or another for 26 years now, itís amazing to finally get the gas they were made for and see what Iíve been missing.
Our gasís is crap!!

You can use the lowest octane LL gas the airport sells. The bikes WILL run better, but don't let your state know you are using aircraft fuel. There are no road taxes added to the cost and they don't like not getting their chunk of flesh. Higher octane will cause a carbon buildup after a while, as the gas does not burn as fast as low octane, the fuel the XS was designed to burn.
