The Dumbing of America:Boring Grammar Rant

Hey folks,

First off...relax! I'm not dissing on anybody on here. This is a very informal place, and so most of us don't really care about misspelled words or grammatical mistakes.

BUT, on the last day of my FMLA time off this week, I was perusing the stories on MSN, and was very surprised to see so many errors in professionally printed/published works on a major internet news site! Granted, several of the articles are essentially retweets...just imported articles from other sources like Reader's Digest, BangWhiz or such, but was still surprised to see them. And these are really fairly obvious errors, not some little obscure rule that nobody aside from an English major would worry about.

It's lighter than Aluminium so it's easier to transcribe and form.

I don't mind the occasional misspelling as much, but at work I get official emails from "Professionals" in text form, where it's obviously way too much effort to spell out "For" (4) "You" (U) "Let me know" (LMK) and "Of course" (ofc).... just to name a few.

I occasionally misspell words; just check out my blog page! However, the level of incompetence in "professional" correspondence is increasing.

SWMBO is an English major and has to deal with this more than I. She works at a college and you should see the spelling errors in college catalogs. You would think colleges would be more particular about their printed material but errors are rampant as are incorrect use of word tense and punctuation.

"Lets eat Grandma." vs "Lets eat, Grandma." (Commas save lives.

None of this is new but the rate seems to be increasing. Standards are being lowered. Not good, IMHO.

its not a typo..it was done on purpose and it is an exaggeration of a word to emphasize a point...so stop being a jerk..

Actually, instead of "Lets eat Grandma", CORRECTED should be (Let's(let us) eat Grandma".
