Thumbs up

Thankfully the heat wave is going away. It was only 105F in the garage yesterday, the day before it was 112F and too hot to work.

Cleaning and prepping for paint takes forever. The case halves were cleaned and torqued together yesterday, then brushed with the first coat of Rustoleum 7715502 aluminum oil-based paint that's good to 300F. The case will get grilled to set the paint just like the jugs after the second coat dries and most of the volatiles have evaporated so the whole thing won't light off and go into orbit.

I like the shiny look from the Rustoleum so I haven't decided if I'm going to use the Duplicolor DE1650 Ceramic Cast Coat Aluminum paint:-

Per Trbig's advice, a full set of new, Blue, main bearings arrived today. Thank you, Tod.

The full set was roughly $100 shipped from a seller on eBay:

Yamaha XS1100-FJ1200 Crank Bearings - Blue
9 of 2H7-11416-01 (plane bearings)
1 of 2H7-11417-01 (thrust bearing)

After I finish grilling the engine case to cure the paint, I'll re-check the Main bearing oil clearances with Plastigauge but the measured dimensions pass a sanity check with the measurements made from the old bearings.

I measured the planes of all the bearing shells and the sides of the thrust bearing with my Harbor Freight micrometer. I glued a 0.1735in ball to the anvil to try to get accurate readings without marking the bearing surfaces:

Geeze Scott, doesn't the math involved measuring like that hurt your head?
