Seat Ideas...

I just recently bought a 1980 XS Eleven Special that I got with plans on customizing it... I need more seat ideas to replace the sofa that's on there now. I'm looking for something like a Sportster seat, but haven't gotten into the tear down part to determine what it takes. Do any of you XS enthusiasts have any insight on this? Pictures please if you have them.

seat

The seat I used on my custom 1980 mns was off of a harley dyna. I believe it was a 2013 model.

I think most guys use the seat off of a harley sportster though. they are longer and sleeker, Just depends on the look that you are after.

That's just plain cool!

Cool, yeah I've seen a Dyna seat used before... Is that other leather piece you have on there just a cover you made to cover the "unfinished" part of the fender that's usually under the old seat?

I took a close look at this the other night.

Here is the thread: http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44982

I believe the rear fender is XV1100. I don't think the stocker will lend itself to this.

Yes, that is exactly what it is, Even though I painted under there, the leather cover worked out better for me, not only as a cover but also to blend the hump and seam that I didn't like showing. If this was a shiny show bike that might not be the best solution, but for the theme I was after it worked out very well.

Thanx, I'll definitely have to look into one of those fenders...

My only thing is: chicks dig motorcycles, and there is nothing more awesome than my gf actually asking me to take her for a ride on the bike. This seat mod eliminates that possibility.

JRealHEMC,
The fender is from an XV920. The fenders from other XV's may be the same...I don't know for sure. Evil-Bay $20 (shipped).

The seat is a Sporty seat... $50 (barely used and perfect). Seems the normal price for one of these is about $50. The HD guys often toss 'em for a new Corbin for some strange reason? Nicely made seats! I can post a couple pics of the mods needed to incorporate that seat if you like?

I don't have that issue, my wife doesn't ride WITH me, she rides NEXT to me on her own bike. I see your point for others tho...

Sportster Seat Mod PICS

JRealHEMC,
Sorry for the delay. Been having some troubles getting my other XS11 running right and this is the first chance I had to get you some pics.....

While taking these for you I realized I mis-spoke in one of these threads of yours. There are a couple things that would NOT fit in my set-up. The "outlet" for aux power is not provided. That's the little gizmo with a glass fuse in it you could hook some accessory to. Also, the tool box had to be removed to provide a space for the ignition box.

There's a lot of minor changes that occurred here, too many to list. Let me know where you have questions about what I did.

You could find an ENTIRELY different way of getting this done and probably/possibly even better! I made a bunch of these moves as I didn't have any plastic side covers for this bike. You may decide to keep yours if you have them.

I've got a little "Tiding Up" to do here like re-wrapping all the wires and etc. but everything DOES work and nothing will be moved on mine from where it is now.

Hope this helps.

KURT

Wrapping wire bundle

For wrapping the harness, I recommend cohesive tape (F4 tape). It's expensive, but common electrical tape just makes a mess.

http://www.f4tape.com/ Shop around. Some aviation suppliers have a good price on it.

It also comes in black.

Marty,
Thanks for the tip! My electricians at work use something they refer to as "Rubber Tape" when they wire up the leads our big 3-phase motors. This stuff looks a little similar....
