chart

I'm trying to interpret this interesting chart. Thanks for posting it....
Would you say that according to the chart, the average price of a 78 is $2000 and the average price of 79-80 is $1800?

INTERESTING ……………………
but statistically pretty meaningless data.

the dot.com is extracting what data they can get at. Then throwing it up on the wall like it means something. Asking Price $$$ is not that relevant since sellers can be way whacky on expectations.

Actually "if" it sold. When it sold. Where it sold. Actual mileage. Time of year it sold. Title / no-Title stuff. And the all important, what $$$ it sold for.
That data equal across all SALES, now that would be more relevant data. What would be really good data would be 'what the buyer plans to do with the bike'.
Ride as is. Fix a little. Restore. Re-Sell etc.

The last E I purchased (rideable & pretty E) last fall was $2,500 Asking but I paid $1,600. Yep, did run nice. Yep, did look good. Only 25,000 loving miles. BUT with all this, it is an old bike. Test rode it 800 miles (locally around home, NO trips) but now gotta dig in and go look and at least do a complete 10,000 mile servicing. Something buyer must do if you want it to be reliable and safe. I will probably put say $900 into the bike before I see if it meets my Safety & Reliability standards.

A known xs11 from a known respected restorer, well that ain't no $2 grand bike. Fully ready to ride and safe and vintage, in good to great condition. That's worth a lot more $$$. AND its probably not listed on Craigslist

Jeff

Good lord Jeff, 800 mile test ride? Haha! Either you had an agreement for that, or the police should have been called!!! :-D

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Supply and demand. These bikes are usually trash because of neglect. Also they are old and no matter what the mileage, they may or may not be good runners. That said, I have had only one bite for my xs11E on Craigs List. I figure that it is a specialty market where buyers are few.

Craigslist is probably the worst place to sell anything. Too many low ballers and scammers. Suggest selling your XS11 any where else. If you have junk, Craigslist may work for you. The 11s are worth more than you think.

Xs1100 value

+1 on Mike’s comments. An xs11 completely gone through properly is better ( my opinion ) than most anything on the market today. A really nice one, and there are more than you realize out there is worth several thousand dollars!!

Being an appraiser, I actually do this for a living and JeffH is right on with his comments, especially when he said the results are meaningless. The data set is too limited for a reliable analysis. This is the statistical equivalent of "My buddy knows a guy that sold one for $____". Nice tool, but nothing to use it on.

I buy, rehab, restore, flip and collect vintage Japanese bikes and unless you're talking high end bikes craigslist is the market. The fact is that the enthusiast market for these is small compared to something like a 73 Z1. There's a pretty nice 79 Special with 23k on the clock on CL in my area for 1800 right now, a few days ago a really nice midnight special went for under 3k. Like any market you have to filter the crud out, CL takes a little more filtering due to a very low bar to entry into the market.

I've had good results there. You get to see how many are watching the ad. Not as easy to scam since you do not give up your phone number. Just a cleaner "store front". Experience with CL has shown issues with no replys, scammers, and a lot of not so good information.
