Navy/Navy reserves
Did my boot in Great lakes RTC in July 77
Engineman A-school was across the street at SSC
Then on to the fleet, USS Spartanburg County (LST-1192) till released from active duty in 80.
transferred to Active reserves attached to SIMA San Diego drilling out of N&MCRC Denver.
Re-enlisted in the reserves attached to the USS Skidway (Midway CV-41) until my discharge in 85.
3 Meds, 1 NATO, 2 trips to Gitmo
I tell people I did more world travel before I turned 21 than most people do in a lifetime.

BTW, those flat bottomed boats make for a rough ride on the open seas.

Days As a Marine

Arrived at MCRD Parris Island in August 13, 1966 and was introduced to the "Yellow Footprints".
Came out of Boot camp an 0311 Grunt and slated to Armory School following ITR. Came out of school with a second MOS 2111 Small Arms Armorer.
Did first In Country tour '68-'69 without a scratch. Second tour '71-'72.
I went back to PI as a PMI (Preliminary Marksmanship Instructor).
Then I was NCOIC of the Armory at MCAS Yuma, Arizona. I most enjoyed being the Range Master at Yuma's Rifle Range.
Then Liaison Staff NCOIC for "Operation New Life" at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA
Then a tour of Recruiter Duty in South Texas.
Then Desert Storm.
I retired in '93
My background in small arms has fueled my collection of Twentieth Century Main Battle Rifles BUT my true passion is Motorcycles.

I never served, but I did one thing to help!

If any of you had a drink at Bellows Beach Club on Oahu from 1982-1984 on a Friday or Saturday night, I probably sold it to you. All services/All ranks club on the windward side--not sure it still exists.

Grew up on AF bases in the 60s in Europe, USAFE and MAC.
