Carb Refurb
So I've messed up one of my carbs pretty good ('nother thread).
I've got a spare set ('79 Mikunis), came off a good running bike, but sitting on my shelf for 20 years (wow). I know there was someone on the forums who used to clean/tune these up as a service hobby/business. Is anyone around who still does this? I found this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultrasonic-...-/184185469200 ... but I would like to make sure it's all gone completely through and cleaned, not sure this is adequate. Anyone have a recommendation?

And if I'm going to f*** it up myself, this is the kit to get?

Kit looks good, but you'll also need diaphragms and plungers for the top end if you have some sticking. Where are you located? If youre close, i could assist with carbs.

Thanks, Seth! Are those parts available or unobtanium at this point?
I'm in Madison, WI; where are you?

Ah im in Springfield MO. A little far. I can help through the internet though if you need.
As far as the diaphrams, you can get them in a couple places. Just found this on ebay searching for xs11 carb diaphrams https://www.ebay.com/i/353119997711?...evt=1&mkcid=28 The plungers can be cleaned up with carb cleaner or an ultrasonic.

Be cautious. There are a lot of jet manufactures out there that put out imposter jets. Micunis are the only reliable ones that I know of.

Also, using individual Pod filters is not for the faint of heart. It will require a lot of experimentation and testing with float level and jet sizes. I liked the way the K&N pods sounded. I found a lot of low end torque but with the Jardine 4 into 1 exhaust, the system’s power diminishes quickly above 95mph. If you are thinking that pods would be good for the ease of removing the carbs and airbox, think again.

Carb question about needle types?
Has anyone ever used a jet kit needle? Has a longer tip and smoother taper...
Just looking for thoughts? |
