Fuse Connectors Broken
I see most of the posts in this thread are more than a few years old; but I'll post anyway.
I put in a new fuse and the connector (being 40 years old) broke off. I have it held in using a clamp, making sure that the clamp does not complete the circuit, but my set-up looks like it was done by "Primitive Pete" (if anyone remembers safety films from high school shop class). I checked ebay for replacement alternatives, and there are a lot of choices; but when I read the words "cut" and "splice" with them, I can just see myself messing it up. So long story short; what is the recommended replacement for my 79' XS and what is involved in the installation? Are the fuse blocks talked about in this thread still available, or is something better and/or easier out there? Thanks from a rider (me) that is not the handiest person with a snipper and splicer!!!

+1 on what Ben said. Recent thread discussion about new XS1100 Fuse Box Replacement Kit http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=47647 Yes, a turn key replacement XS1100 Fuse Box Kit with about everything needed. ![]() Quote:
My 78' XS1100 E with the new fuse box kit ![]() Email Len at XJ4Ever http://www.xj4ever.com/ It is really a great kit and pretty EZ to install. Comes with Step-by-Step Installation Instructions too. Buying the Turn Key Kit saves A LOT of Time and Hassle and Fumbling around assembling ALL the necessary parts and wires etc. to fabricate a DIY solution that may or may not work properly. and may or may not even be the right parts. This KIT solves that problem. Everything you need and professionally built. The cats meow SWEET ……. Jeff

I see the wires come pre-stripped which is very useful however the wires on the bike still need to be stripped similarly so a Stripping TOOL is still required. Also a GOOD CRIMPING TOOL. for Good read NOT cheap. I did mine with the TC fuse box. ( similar are available from local parts stores) but as I did not have a GOOD Crimping tool I ended up with electrical issues. SteveO look for posts from Eastcoaster he is in NJ too and has lots of experience brings XS back to life. He might be close enough to give you a hand. It's quite easy with good tools. Phil

Fuse Box
I've been away for a couple of weeks; so thanks for all the responses. This set-up does look like exactly what I need.
EastCoaster: I may just take you up on your offer of help ... as easy as this seems to be, I will usually find a way to screw it up. It would be well worth me buying you lunch, and give me a chance to find someone else with an XS (I've been riding mine for 30 years and have yet to run into another one). I'm actually in Central NJ, Middlesex County; not Clifton. Thanks to all ![]()

Around the Corner
Not even 15 minutes away. After I get the kit and take a look at it, I will let you know if I need some help. My buddy with a 72' Honda CB750 is also interested, but he does not live too close.
On some weekend nights, we ride to the Shore at Belmar and have pizza or coffee by the Dunkin Donuts while watching the drunk 20-somethings going in and out of the night club up the street. You are always welcome to join us. If I get a minute on a day when I'm not home from work too late, I'll take a ride towards Dey road to see if I can see one of your bikes there!

Successful Installation
Got the Aftermarket Fuse Box installed.
The kit was amazing. Even the wires were color coated the way the original 79' XS box was designed. All the necessary accessories came with the kit, along with detailed step-by-step instructions complete with photos. They really took a lot of time putting this together ... I recommend it highly. My very good friend, who has a lot more experience and much better fine motor skills, helped me a lot with this; so much appreciation to my 72' CB750 Honda owner buddy (who I've known since kindergarten) for all his help. We took a nice, late evening (to early morning) ride to celebrate! If anyone needs this, contact Len at XJ4Ever ..... a real turn-key solution with lots of support. This is a GREAT after market improvement product, and Len responded quickly with all the support and help I needed.

There are several other businesses and individuals selling components for these old machines, some are very good quality, but their instructions and support does not exist. Glad it worked so very well. KURT
