rich or lean

I have an 79 xs1100, it's my first one and I'm currently working to get it running, I was wondering...
do they run on the rich or lean side?
if I put on pod filters on do I need to shim and/or bore the jets?

I'm not sure why you would shim jets. Some people have had to re-jet after going with pods, but I was able to adjust the pilot screws for this.
as for running rich or lean, it should run in the middle.

If you use a color tune system they like to run a little to the rich side. If you remove the air box and go with pods you can bank on re-jetting and entering tuning purgatory. Not saying it cant be done. There are lost of folks here who have been successful. Parts for the carbs are available so I would not attempt to bore my own jets. Welcome to channel 11 by the way. Search may help

type rejetting into search and you'll pull up many good threads on the subject

as they said over-sized jets are available, and there is also an index for matching jet sizes to drill bit sizes on here.

Please start by studieing some of these threads, it may just need a simple
adjustment on the pilot needle screw..

Good luck!!
