Lol, helicopters don't like flying at almost 9, 000' elevation on a 90° day where this event took place... they would probably have sat that one out.
Scott that was the year you rode the 80SG, you and CaptonZap went up to Cripple Creek since you had done Pikes Peak the year before, I don't think you were with us on that run.

That was 2016 at Royal Gorge by Canon City when I flew out to Denver and thank you again for letting me borrow your SG!
It's lower altitude than most of the rides but I remembered a helicopter and I found a picture I took of the ride/tour chopper they had buzzing around everywhere at the 2014 Canon City rally. That was when Columbo fogged everything, then died and got a ride home in a U-Haul truck. ![]()

I was honored to have you ride my bike.
You are correct on that, it does fly pretty much that same known route around the Royal Gorge for sight seeing. Imagine that helicopter flying another 2,000 feet above the ground at the Royal gorge, he would be on the ground relatively speaking on that road we rode from Divide down to the Royal Gorge and after riding Pikes Peak. Density altitude becomes an issue when you get a lot higher on a hot day. They have better things to do than watch from helicopters in BFE. ![]()

I just finished going through the hundreds of pictures I took at the various Colorado rallies along with a metric bikeload of the ones DiverRay took too.
Sheesh! We've been all over the place! ![]()

I look forward to doing Cottonwood Pass, then you will have been to the top of Pikes Peak, been on the highest paved road in the United States on Trail Ridge Road and Cottonwood Pass will have you ride the entirety of the second highest continuous paved road in the United States this year.
Plus another visit to Bishop's Castle is in easy part of a day loop this year.

You thinking Columbo will be resurrected or bring the 117 inch Harley machine?

Scott, you KNOW it would be sweet redemption to do a high-speed fly-by on the same stretch of road, roll out at the front and NO SMOKE! You missed that one Greg but it was glorious.

The Harley is set up better for touring and it's way more comfortable.
I never liked the riding position on Columbo for long distance. A different set bars would be nice but that is: "Just one more thing!" ![]() The XJ11 is great for long rides and canyon carving. I have a new windshield lined up but the soft bags I bought for it a few years ago are pretty toasty now from rain and UV. Buying new gear puts it in the same place as Columbo: "Just one more thing!"

Scott or Columbo... Which would we rather see? Yup, Scott wins. Bring the Harley, decision made.

I'd really like to take the XJ instead of the Harley, it's a lot more fun to ride in the mountains.
I'm still thinking about it: new windshield and new bags or take the Harley? ![]()
