right turn signal will not shut off

No matter what I do. Key off, self-cancel unit unplugged, flasher unplugged. I got a gently used left control from an '83 thinking my turn signal device was shot, but same thing. The left signal will not work at all.

I don't know if the XJ is the same as the XS. The XS11 switch benefits with a good cleaning. I am speaking of the switch assembly on the handle bar.

Figured it out

The hazard switch decals are worn off, and I did not realize my hazards were on, and the left side is not working. They have never worked before at all and I didn't even consider them as a culprit.I don't know why they started working now.

So, you are saying you found the issue?

4 Way Hazard Switch

That 4 way switch can be tough to repair....

I've tried to repair mine and the copper contacts were corroded almost to nothing...

I tried to re-solder them but the wires were corroded too. I did have some luck but it didn't last...If I wiggle the switch in and out of the "on-off", sometimes they work.

As they are rarely used...I put that project on "forever hold"...

Unless you can find an NOS handlebar switch, don't worry.

Just my thoughts...

Yes, I figured it out

I figured it out. It is a hazard switch problem, not a turn switch problem. The hazards were on and I didn't realize it. The left side of the hazards were not working, leading me to believe it was a turn signal problem. As Tenorman said, it is put on the "Someday, if ever" list. Some newer bikes don't even have hazards.
Thanx for the input.
