Needle Float Assembly

Did a test on my float assemblyís and two of them checked out bad. Replaced them with what was supposedly original OEM Yamaha parts. Got them and they are a little different. Still jetted to 2.0, but the needles are different and have different tapers, and heights. Gonna slap em in anyway and see how they run.

Bike will NEVER run correctly unless Genuine Mikuni and in ORIGINAL Yamaha/Mikuni packaging. Having different tapers and lengths will especially NOT work!

Opposing viewpoint

You can't go wrong with Mikuni float needle valves, but I have K&L in my 4 of bikes and I am satisfied. I did buy the needles and seats together as an assembly, and I did need to readjust the floats significantly.

One note of advice with the K&L, make sure the needle valve wire that goes around the float tang is not bent. If it is, straighten it out. Otherwise, the spring in the needle valve is pre-compressed and it behaves differently.

Needle valves

Relying on dealers is most often a waste of time. These bikes are too old for them. All the information you need for any XS1100 or XJ1100 is tight here at XS11.com. Mikuni parts are not cheap, but they are what you need to use.

Kurt, you have 8 bikes? You must have a big garage!

YES, I have eight(8), plus the remains of a few others stuffed into the garage

NO, the garage isn't big it's basically a two-car with a 12' single door, but I have 'em stuffed in there like sardines! I can get my favorite XS11 (Duck) and the FJR out with relative ease, the others require me to nearly empty the garage to get to them..

The two-wheelers also share the garage with a '78 Trans Am 455. The car isn't exactly a Prius so it's footprint is rather large too..

Jets R Us

I haven't had much luck with Jets R Us. Specifically ordered mikuni assemblies and got K&L. Sent them back and they wouldn't issue me a refund. If your seats are good then just order the metal on metal needles from "mikes XS".
K&L is just a packaging company. They order stuff and put it out to tender then package what the lowest bidder sends them. They could be from Taiwan, chec republic, mexico, china who knows. Even in the packages there is no quality control in the spring tension from needle to needle.
