Upper Engine Noise at Startup

I am hearing when my scoot first starts an upper engine noise that sounds very much like tappet noise. It goes away after a couple minutes. Has anyone else heard this? Does this mean I need to adjust my valves? Is this a common thing to have to do?

It goes away because the oil got up there, like it should. However, if its been around 3-5000 miles since the last time the valves were adjusted they are due.
