Installing a Telefix Fork Brace
The TELEFIX Fork Brace comes as 4 nicely finished pieces loosely bolted together.
Two cross-pieces (A1 & A2) which fit between the upper fork tubes but sit on the top of
the lower fork tube and two "C"-shaped pieces (B1 & B2) which bolt on around the
outside of the fork tubes. (See image Telfix 4f) The supplied instructions refer to the
cross-pieces as "bridge" or "stabilizer halves" and to the "C"-pieces as "husks".
INSTALLATION:
- Slide the fork tube dust covers up the fork tube.
- Remove the small hex-bolts (S3-S6) and the husks from the bridge piece.
- Loosen large hex-bolts S1 & S2 enough so that there is some play.
- While holding one end of the cross-pieces slightly higher than the other,
place the assembly between the upper forks. Then level the brace out and
lower it onto the top of the lower fork tubes. It will sit on top of and wrap
around the top of the lower fork tubes.
- Loosely bolt on the husks. These also will sit on top of and wrap around
the top of the lower fork tubes.
- Lightly tighten the stabilizer-half bolts (S1 & S2).
- The provided instructions say to "align both stabilzer halves to the same level
so that there is a distance of approx. 1-3 mm between the stabilizer and
guard". (Note: guard = front fender) In my case, the brace sat on top of the
lower fork tube and there was a good 0.5"-0.75" between the fork brace and
the fender. Ths may be unique to
my bike, to XS11 standards or to all XS11s.
- Tighten the husk screws (S3-S6) evenly and carefully. My unit came with 8
screws loosely holding the husks on and 8 more screws in a plastic bag
along with a couple of hex-keys of appropriately sized for the installation.
The instructions specifically say to use the "new" screws for the installation of
the husks.
- Loosen the bridge-half screws (S1-S2) by 1/4 turn and depress/bounce the
fork firmly a few times. Then tighten these screws firmly.
- Slide the dust covers back down the fork tubes. They fit right over the top of
the fork brace just as they fit over the top of the lower fork tubes.
CAUTIONS:
- The TELEFIX must be readjusted every time the front wheel is changed.
- Be sure there's no interference with or abrading of brake hoses by brace.
- The fork brace must be installed so that screws S1&S2 face the motor.
- On bikes with fairings, ensure that there is plenty of clearance between the fork brace and the fairing.

For my '79F - standard: stick # = FS9. Cost + $129.95 + $6.03 S&H.
In my opinion, fit and finish are excellent and installation was simple and straight-forward. Now, if I could just get my front end back together and test it out!
