Fork Tool

Today's your lucky day! I just did it a couple of weeks ago and the size you need is a loooooooooong screw with a head and two nuts that will fit a 19mm socket. Run one nut up the threads a bit, run the other nut up to be flush with the end of the screw and jam the first nut down on it to prevent it from turning. Drop the thing into the fork tube and hold it with a 19mm socket and however many extensions you need to reach it. It helps to have long arms or an assistant.

The Tool

This is a ½" x 14" hex headed bolt (shank is approx 1/2" dia). The bolt head comes out fitting a 19mm socket. Same for the matching nut. I tack-welded the nut to the bolt.

The Procedure

• Remove the spring from the fork
• Insert the tool into the inner tube
• Use allen wrench (8 or 10 mm) on the bolt in the bottom of the fork
• Use a rachet with a 19mm socket on the tool you can break the bolt loose
• Reverse the process to reassemble

FWIW I use Locktite Blue to reassemble the dampener tube assembly.
